ORLANDO, FL- During the week of March 14-18 the Baylor Swim Club competed in the 2017 National Club Swimming Association (NCSA) Junior National Swimming Championships at the Orlando YMCA Aquatic Center in Orlando, Florida. This is the top swimming competition in the country on an annual basis for swimmers eighteen years old and under. The Baylor Swim Club sent twelve athletes to compete in the national meet which featured over 1600 athletes from 250 clubs across the country. Sixteen year old Trey Freeman once again lead Baylor during the four day competition. He claimed the overall boys high point award with 159 points and lead the boys team to a fifth place finish overall in the team scores.
Trey Freeman swam to first place finishes in both the 200 and 500 yard freestyles. He placed second in both the 100, and 1000 freestyle events. His time of 8:56.30 earned him a new Southeastern Swimming record in the event. Finally he took third in the 1650 free and eleventh in the 200 backstroke.
Teammate Peter Lochmaier also had an outstanding meet. Lochmaier finished fifth overall in the 200 yard butterfly, and took 12th in the 400 IM. His performance in the 200 fly also got him spot on the 2017 NCSA All-Star Team. The NCSA All-Star team will participate in a training camp at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Spring, CO later this year.
On the girls side, fourteen year old Ellie Waldrep had a fantastic first NCSA Junior Nationals. Her time of 55.25 in the 100 yard backstroke earned her a new Baylor Middle School team record in the event. She also made it back to finals to place 28th overall. Teammate Dallas Woods finished 24th overall in finals of the 50 yard backstroke as well.
